This variety of bog plants is one of the best and most widely grown. Astilbe foliage is deeply cut and often turns a copper colour in autumn. Individual flowers may be small but blossom grouped in large feathery plumes. Astilbe flowers between June and August and when planted in drifts at the edge of a pond or lake, or anywhere in a bog garden, the visual effect is magnificent.

As a species, the iris flourishes in damp soil. Many iris's enjoy acid soil and bog gardens, rich in humus, will support many of the acid loving plants.
Warning: Plants in the iris family are poisonous.

Primula and primrose are one and the same family. They produce sturdy and veined and serrated edge leaves and prefer moist humus rich soil with some shade. With care, will flower in abog garden from early spring to late July early August and when in flower, they always look magnificent in large blocks.
